Water Quality Application

Published on by in Technology

Dear all,

Can somebody  out there tell us as to whether there is a water quality application that can be used for both real time transmission of water quality data as well as advising on the suitability of water that they use for drinking .

  1. Water quality & water transmission are interrelated. Water for drinking must be Potable as per the prevalent standard prescribed by local authority. Depending on raw water quality you can select the Parameter for assessing the quality. You can identify the most important parameters for water quality check.  Please contact me on rvsveipl@gmail.com for further discussion.

  2. Can you describe your actual application? What is the source/distribution? What do you want to monitor? Are you looking for biological or inorganic quality? Is this about chemical contaminantes?

  3. Hi Peter,

Yes there are plenty of instruments & sensors and telemetry (long range data transmission) modules on the market providing water quality data (both chemical and physical) where the data can be logged and integrated into monitoring & control station (e.g. through SCADA) for analytics, controm and monitoring purposes.

In summary, you can start by using these keywords: water quality checker/instruments/sensors, data logger, telemetry, SCADA.

  4. Yes they are there.Kindly search Jeedmilta treatment plant in Hyderabad.

  5. Real-time information is breaking new ground in science and technology and will help lead to new ways of providing water-quality notification systems throughout your country.

Their were many different systems all over the developed countries, USA, UK, Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Australia, Germany........you have to find which is most suitable for your company or country.

Referring to the suitability of Source water to be used in drinking water, I think, as well as in my country there is water quality standards regarding the raw water that will be used for drinking water. Check if this available in your country.

  6. There are  number of ways to do this.  First, many utilities ingest their water quality data directly into SCADA and then either make the data available through SCADA or output the data to some kind of middleware so that water quality access, analysis and reporting is separated from command and control.  Often,  is not attractive to the operations staff who use SCADA for Command and control to have many water quality staff working integrally in SCADA.  The SCADA folks are also often overwhelmed with work and water quality connections are low on their list of priorities.  In these cases, there many solution that can be used for capture, display and quality control charting for water quality data.  However, to understand the real quality of the data for drinking water or manufacturing use, there is a need for more robust evaluation and alarming based on multiple parameters in the water/data stream.  Very few effective event detection systems exist within the Water industry.  Our sister company WaterSuite has capabilities to meet these needs.  We can capture any data stream that can be sent to the cloud; We can develop complex rules for event detection that is then integrated into the software.

Of equal concern, the quality of on-line sensor data has repeatedly been demonstrated to be a very challenging undertaking.  Most on-line water quality data are not sufficiently reliable to be used for decision making and certainly not for compliance reporting.  We have worked some of this out with a few clients so we can help with developing a quality control and maintenance program that will improve the uses of on-line water quality data.

  7. Usually the local water utility will have a web site with quarterly reports on there.
