Ceramic flat sheet membranes

We plan to use flat sheet membranes for oil contaminated water. The idea is to clean the water to maximum 2-4 ppm. We believe the main challenge will be the cleaning of the membranes, but are searching for experience.

    Could you please provide more information about the application. Such as, what the resource of the water? What is the oil concentration in the raw water? Is the oil free oil or emulsified oil? What else major contaminants are in the water at which concentration? Is there colloidal matter in the water? What is the temperature and pH of the water? What is the pretreatment you have? Do you inject any chemicals in the water before the membrane? Do you want to use submersible membrane or external membrane? Is this for a new plant installation or a upgrading of the existing plant? Is the effluent for discharge or reuse?

    Usually, the biggest concern for membrane application is fouling. But it need better understanding of the water and the process to answer your question.

    Generally speaking, the ceramic membrane need a higher initial investment, but it has high flux, longer service life, and needs lower pressure than polymeric membrane. The ceramic membrane may have lower operating cost due to lower energy and chemicals required and longer lifespans. The life cycle cost can be similar or even cheaper for ceramic membrane.

    Pl. share with us more information about your waste water characteristics and application so that I can suggest you the right solution. We need to understand in what form the oil is present I.e dispersed/free/emulsified/ with suspended solids etc. ceramic membrane are very expensive and there are alternatives available and some oil remediation technologies will remove oil to below detectable level if you want to reuse the water.
